I mean it’s not like it’s sgt York’s 1911 or al Capone’s tommy gun. then enjoy it, even if it means rebluing it and risking a couple hundred bucks maybe. If wanted it as an investment then you should have bought mutual funds or gold, not an old gun. is that really that big of a concern? I mean looking at the big picture of you want to save a few hundred bucks then don’t even buy he gun in the first place. And if it loses a couple of hundred bucks,l when some day you nights sell it.

Seriously if it was mine and I felt that I’d like it better revlued, I would just do it. Wait so if te a $500-1000 gun and you are afraid of damaging the resell value, what might that mean? Like a $1000 gun is now $500? For the amount of money that would cost I wouldn't spend it restoring a Colt pocket but to each his own. The only way I'd refinish an old Colt unless it was completely roached would be to send to someone like Turnbull Restorations. I wouldn't change either but you could change the grips out and still not bubba anything.

I also really like the hard rubber grips. I just saw one in my local shop for $350 in I would say very poor condition. I see others have addressed the value but I'll through in my two cents. I think blemished due to bad gun storage is worth rebluing sometimes, but not honest wear from previous owners. But if you refinish it people will tell it's redone because the wear on the grips will contrast with it. Rebluing is erasing that history and paying someone to lower it's collector value. The wear on that gun is testimony to the forgotten men or women who put the gun to use long ago.
